CITRUS PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — A planned fight between teens at the Citrus Park Mall ended in a tragedy, and now a 15-year-old boy faces charges.
Samuel Oquendo is just 15, but the charges against him are as serious as they come. Investigators believe a fight broke out after a group of teens met up for a slap-boxing event in the mall’s parking garage.
“When a juvenile has made an adult decision, with an adult firearm, they are going to be facing adult consequences,” State Attorney Suzy Lopez said.
Oquendo faces charges of murder in the second degree, minor in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon, according to HCSO.

Peter Hyman Jr, known as PJ, was an honor student at Jefferson High School who was shot and killed after the fight turned into a deadly altercation.
“There were people who loved him, and you took him away from people who loved him,” his mother, Bianca Cooper, said. “You took him away from me, he was cared about.”
The victim’s mother said she dropped PJ off to hang out with his friends and never expected it would be her last time seeing her son.
“He got ready to get out the car and said, ‘all right mom, bye I love you’ and he told his sister that he loved her, and I will see you in the morning,” Cooper said. “I said okay and that was my last conversation with him.”
Cooper said all that is left are memories and a poster with heartfelt messages from PJ’s friends.
“It lets me know I raised a good son, and he was a good boy,” Cooper said.
