TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 15-year-old was arrested in connection to the fatal shooting at the Citrus Park Town Center Mall last week, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, 16-year-old Peter Hyman Jr. was shot and killed outside the Red Robin.

During an investigation, detectives learned an argument occurred between two groups of boys following a planned “slapboxing” event in a parking garage. Afterward, the boys shook hands and parted ways, according to HCSO.

Individuals from both groups met outside the Citrus Park Town Center Mall where a fight broke out.

Samuel Oquendo, 15, was arrested on Thursday and is facing charges that include murder in the second degree, minor in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon, according to HCSO.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez said Oquendo will be charged as an adult.

“We will continue to use every tool we can as prosecutors to hold teenagers accountable for acts of gun violence in Hillsborough County,” Lopez said.

“I’m proud of our detectives for their work and determination in finding the person responsible for this tragic act. Their dedication is bringing the individual responsible for this senseless act to justice,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
