TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa 15-year-old was charged this week with the murder of a 14-year-old boy who was found dead in April, police said.

According to the Tampa Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 1400 block of West Busch Boulevard on April 17.

Upon arrival, they found the victim, Jevario Buie, near the railroad tracks between Busch Boulevard and Rome Avenue.

Jahmir Moore, 15, has been arrested in connection with the murder after surveillance video from nearby residences revealed Moore and the victim were last seen together just before the murder occurred, according to TPD.

Detectives said they found records of Moore “communicating with Buie before the murder, as well as social media messages, notes, and search history, all implicating his involvement.”

In a message sent through social media, Moore wrote about details related to Jevario’s death that were not publicly available, according to police.

“I’ve been living in a nightmare since I lost my son,” said Jevario’s mother during a Thursday press conference. “Now I can feel a little bit of closure. Thanks to the detectives, I know who now. Now I just need to know why.”

Tampa police, working with the US Marshals Task Force, arrested Moore on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

He has been charged with murder in the first degree, carrying a concealed firearm, tampering with physical evidence, and minor in possession of a firearm.

The victim’s grandfather, Michael Baldwin, described Jevario as “a good kid,” who “had the rest of his life that he was hopeful for.”

“I am deeply saddened that it was another 15-year-old, at the same time, we know that the streets of Tampa are safer today,” Baldwin said.

According to State Attorney Suzy Lopez, Moore will be tried as an adult.

“When you make adult decisions, you must be prepared to face the adult consequences,” she said.
