ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man shot an attempted carjacking suspect outside of a St. Petersburg restaurant on Wednesday.

St. Pete police were called to the Crafty Crab restaurant on Tyrone Blvd. shortly after 8 p.m. for a reported shooting.

A couple parked in front of the restaurant, where the wife went inside to pick up food and the husband stayed in the car. Police said a masked man tried to carjack the victim, but the victim pulled out his own gun and shot the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Simon White, 18, left the area and was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition on Thursday.

When White is released from the hospital, he will be charged with attempted carjacking and occupied vehicle trespassing.
