ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (WFLA) — Body camera footage shows the terrifying moment a car fully sunk into a body of water, just seconds after two teenagers escaped.
St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at 5 a.m. on November 30.
“Please hurry up, there’s water coming in the car,” one of the 18-year-old occupants told 911 dispatchers.
When deputies arrived, deputy Jayde Glines climbed into the water to help the girls escape. They climbed out of the windows just seconds before the car sank 20 feet into the water.
Both teenagers were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Exhaustion is believed to have been a factor leading up to the crash.
A sheriff’s office dive team assisted a wrecker crew in retrieving the car.
