TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A tropical system in the Caribbean has a “near 100% chance” for development as it continues to track northward or northwestward, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Gradual development is expected over the next few days, and officials say the system is expected to become a tropical cyclone on Monday.

Within 48 hours, the system has a near 100% chance for development, with a near 100% chance over the next seven days. An Air Force Hurricane Hunter will investigate the wave on Sunday.
“Models show this moving into the central Gulf of Mexico and likely become a tropical depression early this week and a tropical storm by Tuesday or Wednesday,” Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Eric Stone said.
A Hurricane Watch was issued for the Cayman Islands and a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Jamaica.

Another system in the Caribbean, just north of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, is slowly developing.
In a 1 p.m. update, the NHC said this wave is likely to be absorbed by the stronger system by Monday, as it continues to move westward. Within seven days, there is only a 20% chance for this system to develop.
Meanwhile, in the far eastern Atlantic, Tropical Storm Patty is impacting the Azores, producing maximum sustained winds of 50mph as it moves eastward. The storm is anticipated to weaken over the next few days.
