A tropical depression is “likely to form” as a tropical wave moves westward into the western Caribbean Sea later this week, the National Hurricane Center said.

A tropical wave is producing rain and thunderstorms over the central Caribbean Sea, according to NHC.

“A tropical depression or storm is likely to form by the end of the week in the western Caribbean. Forecast models disagree on where it will go after it develops and it is too early to say which one is correct. Several options are on the table including getting swept out quickly into the Atlantic as well as a tropical storm or even hurricane moving into the Gulf of Mexico. That possibility is 7-10 days away making it too early to answer many questions except that a storm is likely to form,” Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Amanda Holly said.

After the system has developed, it is expected to slow down through the weekend.

The chance of development in the next 48 hours is 30% with a chance of 70% in the next seven days.

The next name on the list is Sara.
