ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Rays have announced they will play a day later for their home opener.

MLB moved the home opener game at George M. Steinbrenner Field from Thursday, March 27 to Friday, March 28, for additional time to prepare the ballpark.

Steinbrenner Field is the spring training home for the New York Yankees, but due to hurricane damage to Tropicana Field, the Tampa Bay Rays will play their 2025 regular season home games at this location.

In 63 days, pitchers and catchers will report to Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte for spring training before moving to Steinbrenner Field to finish out spring training when the Yankees move back north for opening day.

According to Tampa Bay Rays Communications, the Yankees will continue to play their spring training games at Steinbrenner Field in 2025.
