SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A child on a dirt bike was injured Monday night in a crash with a Sarasota police officer, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of 22nd Street and Maple Avenue, police said. The area was blocked for several hours while investigators were on the scene but has since reopened.

The juvenile was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with serious injuries and underwent surgery Monday night. Police say he is still at the hospital under the care of medical professionals and surrounded by family.

The officer involved was not injured and has been laced on restricted administrative duty while the investigation is ongoing.
