LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A Lakeland man died Wednesday morning after nearby drivers reported seeing him attempt to climb onto a moving dump truck.
The incident happened near the intersection of Reynolds Road and Highway 92 East in Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses told 911 dispatchers that the 56-year-old man, described as “a known transient in the area,” was darting through traffic and waving his arms. He tried to climb the step up to the passenger side of a dump truck, which was stopped at a traffic light, as it began to accelerate.

The man fell and was run over by the truck, leaving him with fatal injuries.
PCSO traffic homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
