NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) — A U.S. Army veteran’s home is still in shambles following Helene and Milton.
Bobby Reidy had to turn his driveway into a makeshift home and slept on the cold concrete for more than eight weeks while waiting for his FEMA application to be processed.
He is finally getting answers after reaching out to 8 On Your Side for help.
Reidy says despite frequent calls to FEMA, his application remained in progress.
However, two days after sharing his story on WFLA he finally got answers.
“I actually got an email saying there was money in my account from FEMA,” Reidy said. “I checked my bank, and it was $4809.70.”
Reidy’s future is now at the forefront of his concerns, and his worries continue to grow deeper each day.
“I need at least $15,000 to get into another home at least, and that’s just to get the home,” Reidy said. “Then I still got to pay lot rent and I have to get utilities hooked up and I have to get furniture.”
Since he received a response from FEMA Reidy has found temporary housing, but his road to recovery isn’t over yet.
“The Helene claim is still open,” Reidy said. “I’m completely approved for the disaster relocation part of it which is one half. The other half, which is personal property, and the home is where the holdup is.”
