SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — A passenger is dead after troopers said he was ejected from an ATV and then run over by the impaired driver on Sunday night.

Around 8:48 p.m., a 32-year-old Spring Hill man, identified as Ford K. Perkins, was driving a Polaris side-by-side ATV on a private road behind the Sunoco gas station, located at 16621 Shady Hills Road in Spring Hill.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Perkins lost control of the ATV while driving in circles.

A 35-year-old Spring Hill man in the front right seat was ejected as the vehicle flipped over. That’s when the ATV ran him over.

FHP said the victim later died due to the injuries from the crash. Perkins, along with another 24-year-old Spring Hill man on the ATV, were not hurt during the crash.

Following the incident, Perkins took off on foot and was later found near the scene of the crash.

Troopers arrested Perkins for DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
