TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Parts of the Withlacoochee River are closed to vessel traffic due to flooding from Hurricane Milton.
Rising water levels at the Withlacoochee River can create dangerous conditions for boaters, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Officials said submerged hazards, fast currents, and debris could make navigation hard.
Boaters are advised to stay away from the area until water levels recede and normal conditions are restored.
“We are working closely with local officials and monitoring water levels to make adjustments as conditions change. We ask all boaters to respect these temporary restrictions and stay alert to any updates as the situation evolves,” said Maj. Bill Holcomb, FWC Boating and Waterways Section Leader.
Other impacted rivers include the Suwanee, Santa Fe, and St. Johns River.
