HARTFORD, Mich. (WFLA) — A massive crash in Michigan left a person in a hospital with critical injuries after 17 vehicles collided Monday.
According to the Michigan State Police, the crash occurred on I-94 near Hartford during a lake-effect snowstorm that persisted into Tuesday.
The weather conditions degraded so badly that white-out conditions hindered road visibility from Berrien County to Hillsdale County.
The collision involved about 14 cars and three semi-trucks. In addition, 15 other vehicle slide-offs separate from the main crash were reported due to the road conditions.
“Driving too fast for conditions believed to be a factor with heaving blowing snow producing whiteout conditions,” the MSP Fifth District said.
At least one person was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The MSP did not specify if there were other injuries related to the collision.
The MSP advised civilians to avoid unnecessary travel to prevent further incidents during the snowstorm.
