BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — A Bradenton woman used an excuse of having “botox treatments” to try to fraudulently claim hurricane disaster assistance, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Veronica Torres, 44, is accused of using her mother’s name, driver’s license, and social security information.

Police said Torres applied for the City of Bradenton’s Hurricane Disaster Assistance Program, saying she was forced to leave her home due to storm damage.

She had requested $7,967, which had been approved.

But when Torres went to collect the check on Thursday, a city employee noticed she looked a lot younger than the woman she claimed to be. According to officials, that’s when Torres said she claimed “botox treatments” made her look younger.

After she failed to convince the employee, Torres was told to come back the next day.

On Friday, Bradenton police arrested Torres and charged her with filing a false public assistance claim.
