RIDGE MANOR, Fla. (WFLA) — In the Ridge Manor neighborhood in Hernando County, flood waters still surround some homes and cover some streets.
It’s been that way since Hurricane Milton devastated the area eight weeks ago.
Carol Callaghan says water over the streets has created a number of problems. She says mail service just resumed on Tuesday and she had to drive more than half an hour to pick up her mail, so she contacted the postal service.
“Fed Ex delivers, parcel post delivers, everybody delivers but you,” she told them.
Getting her mail delivered to her home means a lot.
“I’m handicapped, so it makes it difficult. I’ve got enough storm damage that I’m dealing with,” said Callaghan.
Others in the area are not so lucky. Bert Sabatelli and his neighbor still don’t have power in their homes.
Sabatelli says he doesn’t have the money he needs to make repairs.
“I’m too old, I’m 70 years old. I can’t work enough to replace it,” said Sabatelli.
He says his home is filled with mold and there is nothing he can do about it.
A spokesperson for Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative says they will look into the issue.
Down the street, Sam Hernandez has power in her home, but she and others feel like they have been forgotten.
“It’s been rough, it’s still hard to get supplies out here for what we need, companies are forgetting that we are even out here,” said Hernandez.
