CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. (WFLA) — Crystal River was among the numerous communities in Florida that was hit extremely hard by Hurricane Helene’s flooding.

Photos taken by drone service Higher Perspectives on Facebook showed the level of the devastation from the air.

“This was a bad one,” the service wrote on social media.

When 8 On Your Side crews were at the scene, homeowners were still stuck waiting for the floodwaters to recede before they could begin the clean-up process. Floodwater filled the streets and buildings as late as Friday morning.

“It got up to 3 feet of water in my house,” resident John Morrison told 8 On Your Side. “I never thought I’d have water in my house.”

Prior to the hurricane, forecasters predicted that Citrus County would see a dangerous storm surge of around 10 to 15 feet. County officials said it was likely 10 feet.

Deputies said about 200 residents who did not evacuate had to be rescued.
