(WFLA) – Emergency responders in Clearwater, Florida, helped evacuate dozens of residents of a large apartment complex that flooded amid Hurricane Milton.
The Standard, on Drew Street, was inundated with floodwaters from Milton overnight.
Clearwater had been under a flash flood warning, and subsequently a flash flood emergency notice after Milton made landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast on Wednesday evening.
Videos shared by the Clearwater Police show officers wading through flooded parking areas with residents and their pets, and going door-to-door to check apartments for those who may be in need of help.
Rescue vehicles were also brought in to transport residents to safety amid the flooding.
“More than two dozen people have been rescued so far in the aftermath of #hurricanemilton,” Clearwater Police said Thursday morning.
The emergency response at the Clearwater apartment building is just one of the rescue efforts currently underway in Florida after Hurricane Milton made landfall on Wednesday night, bringing devastating winds and storm surge to parts of Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Fort Myers.
The hurricane had weakened to a Category 1 storm by mid-morning on Thursday.
