PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman who had pulled over to look for her phone on the side of I-4 was killed after being struck by a vehicle Friday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 23-year-old Davenport woman driving a pickup truck stopped along the shoulder of eastbound I-4, just west of SR-39 in Plant City around 8:45 p.m.

The woman had begun walking along the shoulder of the interstate to look for her cell phone that had fallen from her truck.

When she found the phone in the roadway, she stepped in front of a vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old Brandon woman, officials said.

The woman was struck by the vehicle and died at the scene of the crash. FHP said the other driver was not injured.
