TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) —Tampa International Airport is expecting another busy travel period for Thanksgiving, after breaking airport records in 2023.
Between Nov. 21 and Dec. 2, TPA said they anticipate roughly 80,000 passengers each day to pass through Tampa. Over the 13-day period, this comes to around 1,040,000 travelers.
However, the busiest travel day has come and gone, as TPA anticipated Sunday, Nov. 24, to have the most travelers. As of 11 p.m. that night, only 17% of flights experienced delays.
As more passengers pack up to go meet family, parking garages are likely to fill up. Travelers are encouraged to book parking in advance.
Several projects to expand security checkpoints at Airsides A and E, and the shuttle replacement programs, are still undergoing construction, which may lead to longer wait times. Those traveling domestically should arrive two hours before their flight, and international travelers should be around three hours ahead of time.
Later this week, forecasters said possible winter storms may complicate Thanksgiving travel, as rain and snow sweep across the U.S. Through Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Nevada. The Midwest is also expected to see rain and snow early this week, while the East Coast will be impacted on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
