TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A school security officer with Hillsborough County Public Schools was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office.

David Cruzado, 57, was stopped at 3:24 a.m. after an officer spotted his vehicle swerving from the lane on Sunforest Drive and Eisenhower Boulevard in Tampa.

The deputy had Cruzado do a field sobriety test after showing signs of impairment. He also blew a .168 and a .175 during two breath tests— double the legal limit.

According to officials, Cruzado was wearing his school security uniform and had his gun belt and gun in his car during the traffic stop.

Cruzado was arrested and charged with DUI over .15.

“This incident involving a school security officer is deeply disappointing,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “His decision to drive under the influence endangered our community and is unacceptable—especially for someone entrusted with the safety of our schools. He will be held accountable for his actions.”

This is an ongoing investigation.
