TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hillsborough County officials are discussing hurricane preparations ahead of Milton’s landfall in Florida.

Hurricane Milton is currently a Category 4 storm, located about 750 miles west-southwest of Tampa with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph.

Hillsborough County officials announced a mandatory evacuation for zones A and B, as well as all manufactured and mobile homes starting at 2:30 p.m. today.

Residents in zones A, B, and manufactured or mobile homes should be in a safe location by 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, according to Hillsborough County.

Hillsborough County opened nine shelters for residents.

  • Sickles High School (pet friendly) 7950 Gunn Highway, Tampa
  • Pizzo Elementary School (general population, no pet shelter) 11701 USF Bulls Run Drive, Tampa
  • Erwin Technical College (special needs only, pet friendly) 2010 East Hillsborough Ave, Tampa
  • Sumner High School (special needs only, pet friendly) 10650 County Road 672, Riverview
  • Strawberry Crest High School (special needs only, pet friendly) 4691 Gallagher Road, Dover
