NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) — Another season of life will soon begin for a set of feathered parents after a female bald eagle laid an egg on the popular Southwest Florida Eagle Cam.
“We have an egg in the nest!” the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam announced through social media Friday afternoon.
The 24/7 live stream has been following the mother eagle and her mate since mid-September, when they first started preparing their nest.
Most mornings, they could be seen adding sticks for the rails and fluff for the bole of the nest, which sits 60 feet above the ground in a Slash Pine tree.
Viewers also caught glimpses of the two birds engaging in mating behaviors as they flew and soared together, sometimes taking breaks at the nest throughout the day.
As the months stretched on, the female eagle appeared to become more engaged and protective of the territory, often perching and keeping watch over the nest tree.
Now that the first egg has arrived, viewers will get to watch as the two eagles rear their young.
The previous season followed the same bonded pair as they successfully raised a hatchling to a juvenile eagle, with viewers getting to see every meal and interaction in-between.
The action was caught using four different cameras all live streaming to the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam’s website. To follow along with the eagles, click here.
