PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WFLA) — A 16-year-old boy was apparently struck and killed by lightning as he was riding his bike in a South Florida neighborhood on Wednesday, according to NBC affiliate WTVJ.

A video captured on a neighbor’s doorbell camera shows the aggressive winds and rainy conditions near Southwest 67th Avenue and Southwest 6th Street in Pembroke Pines.

The neighbor told WTVJ she saw the teen on his bike across the street when the storms came in around 5 p.m.

“I thought I got hit for a second because it was so loud and it was like a flash and I realized that I was fine so I ran inside, but I heard lightning before but never that loud,” the neighbor said. “No one thinks you’re gonna get hit like that let alone pass away from it.”

According to WTVJ, Pembroke Pines police found the boy lying in the grass. He was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

WTVJ also reported that there was a hole in the concrete near where the boy was found, which neighbors claimed wasn’t there before the incident.

Officials reportedly found the 16-year-old with burn wounds on his chest and inner thighs and are working to confirm that he was hit by a lightning strike.
