BUNNELL, Fla. (WFLA) — Following a multi-day investigation, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said Friday detectives finally solved the mystery behind a “significant amount” of blood found at a local park.
Deputies were reportedly conducting a security check on Monday, Nov. 11 at Hidden Trails Park when they discovered the bloody scene inside a public restroom.
Through further investigation, authorities said they were able to confirm it was human blood.
However, what happened inside the restroom remained unclear for several days.
According to the sheriff’s office, no people were found in the area at the time, and there were no immediate leads regarding the source of the blood. A subsequent search with K-9 officers also did not provide any further information.
As their investigation continued on Thursday, Nov. 14, the sheriff’s office issued a plea to the public asking anyone who might have seen anything unusual at the park to speak up.
“We are actively investigating this situation, and any information from the public could be critical to helping us determine what occurred,” Sheriff Rick Staly said Thursday. “Whatever happened could be just an accident or it could be something more serious.”
Then, on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 15, the sheriff’s office said the case was resolved. According to detectives, new information indicated that the blood was the result of an ATV accident.
Nobody was killed or seriously injured, officials said. No further details were provided, and the sheriff’s office said it was no longer seeking new information on Friday.
