Hundreds of people shop for Black Friday at Tampa Premium Outlets

LUTZ, Fla., (WFLA) — Shoppers are on the hunt for big holiday deals.

Even though Black Friday has changed significantly in recent years, long lines formed at stores at the Tampa Premium Outlets.

According to the National Retail Federation, more than 130 million people will be out and about shopping.

Black Friday is the day for deals and where retailers see non-stop foot traffic.

It’s not just a day for 50% and 60% off deals but a tradition for families.

“Every year, we have not missed it for 15 years,” one shopper said. “It’s our favorite holiday.”

“This is more of a tradition now,” another shopper said. “My wife and I come out here for probably the last 7 years we’ve been doing this.”

The National Retail Federation’s prediction is that people will spend around 3% more than last year.

To prepare for the influx of people, the outlets is all hands-on deck.

“It takes months to do this, along with the retailers and working with the local Pasco Sheriff’s Office for the additional support,” said Shannon Brzuchalski, Director of Marketing at Tampa PO.

It’s no secret online shopping has taken a life of its own, but these shoppers tell 8 On Your Side they prefer to go in-person this time of year.

“It kind of gives you a day to focus on getting all your shopping done, get it done in one day, so that you’re not out in the hustle and bustle the rest of the time you can enjoy family,” Rebekah Cherry said.

Despite all the online shoppers, Shannon Brzuchalski, Director of Marketing at Tampa PO, said they haven’t seen a decrease in shoppers on Black Friday.

“No, absolutely not, everyone loves to be in the store to touch, feel, and try it on and bring it home,” she said.

People are spending the day buying things for family, friends, and getting everything on discount.

The Federation said around 65% of Black Friday shoppers will choose to go in person this year.
