PALM BAY, Fla. (WFLA) — An 18-year-old Florida man is behind bars after deputies said he waterboarded a cat and threw the animal off a third-floor balcony.
“We’re about to walk a sorry individual into our jail for animal cruelty,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday.

Kieran McKinney, 18, of Brevard County, “likes to beat up cats,” the Sheriff added, after accusing the teen of torturing the animal.
On Oct. 18, Palm Bay police responded to a domestic call after McKinney was involved in an altercation with another individual. It was during that response that they discovered the animal cruelty, in which they reached out to the sheriff’s office to investigate.
Sheriff Ivey said several different instances of the abuse occurred out of retaliation. One time McKinney threw the cat onto a couch, and another time he threw the cat from a third-floor balcony, across the parking lot, and broke its leg.

A video, which can be viewed above, also shows McKinney waterboarding the cat, by using a hose to spray the animal three different times while it was locked in his carrier.
He was “just torturing this poor cat because the cat had had an accident,” Sheriff Ivey said.

During this instance, McKinney also had deprived the cat of food and water, due to its “behavior.”
“Go sit in the corner and think about what you’ve done,” the Sheriff said. “Because that’s what your little punk self deserves.”
After the Sheriff was finished speaking, he, along with several other deputies, grabbed McKinney and escorted him into the jail from their patrol car.
After the jail door slammed, the Sheriff said, “That’s the sound of justice.”
McKinney was charged with animal confinement without food and water and three counts of aggravated animal cruelty. He is being held in the Brevard County Jail on an $80,000 bond.
