TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 35 counties on Saturday ahead of Tropical Storm Milton.

The storm is expected to have “life-threatening impacts” on Florida as a major Category 3 hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The following counties were included in the order: Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia counties.

Florida’s Gulf Coast is recovering from Hurricane Helene, which impacted the region just days ago. The executive order includes a language requiring all debris management sites and landfills in areas affected by Helene to remain open and allow 24/7 drop-offs.
