PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Panama City man turned a $50 gamble into $1 million on a scratch-off ticket, the Florida Lottery announced Monday.

Russell Golden purchased his winning ticket from Captain Hai’s Fresh Seafood Market & Convenience Store in Panama City, located at 1107 North East Avenue. That retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for the sale.

The Florida Lottery said he won the prize, playing the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game— a $50 ticket.

Golden chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.

The 500X THE CASH game features Florida’s largest top prize on a scratch-off game of $25 million. The game’s odds are 1-in-4.23, offering more than $1.66 billion in cash prizes.

Since its inception, scratch-off games have awarded more than $63.1 billion in prizes and has generated nearly $20 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
