TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Get ready for takeoff because Red Bull Flugtag is back in Tampa this weekend!

It is known as a unique competition where teams make handmade aircrafts and try to get them to soar over the water.

For the first time since 2011, Red Bull Flugtag will kick off at the Tampa Convention Center on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

On Friday, the teams had a meet-and-greet with spectators and put the finishing touches on their flying machines.

Around 30 teams will be judged based on flight distance, creativity, their costumes and skit.

“I hope we fly a whole lot and hope all the judges really like our plane,” Polk County Hillbillies Team Member Jeff Caudill said. “So yeah, we’re gonna try.”

The event is open to the public and free to watch.
