ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Two local equestrian girls have been saddling up in St. Pete for a national championship that will take them all the way to Las Vegas.

Lexi Hoyer, 11, and Ava Block, 14, have received nominations for the United States Hunter Jumper Association National Championships that will take place Nov. 11-17.

“I was really surprised, honestly,” Block said. “It was kind of a big shock to me.”

Hoyer and Block spend multiple days a week practicing at local stables in St. Pete to prepare for the competition.

“When we go out to do the courses, I feel like me and my pony have really good connection,
Hoyer said.

Because of travel and horse transportation costs, the girls have been fundraising by selling pens, keychains and bracelets.
