MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Unseating an incumbent senator is no small task, but democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell believes she can get the job done on Election Day.
The former Democratic congresswoman from the Florida Keys made her final push for votes today.
For weeks, we have seen the attack ads.
“He stole money from seniors in the biggest Medicare fraud ever,” Mucarsel-Powell said.
“You pay your taxes, she wants to give your money to people here illegally,” said in Sen. Rick Scott ads.
Mucarsel-Powell is delivering her final messaging out to voters while canvassing in West Kendall on Monday.
“This is going to be an election that will determine your future, whether we can protect Medicare and Social Security, whether we could reduce the cost of living, protect education for our children,” she said. “It’s about reducing gun violence. It’s about tackling the climate crisis. That’s on the line tomorrow.”
Mucarsel-Powell’s opponent incumbent Sen. Scott has tied her to socialist policies.
“My opponent is silly,” Scott said. “She’s a silly socialist. She’s not serious about anything. She lies about everything.”
Mucarsel-Powell said she’s appealing to all voters.
“I can’t tell you how many Republicans come to me and say, ‘I’m voting for you because I know that you’re going to work for us,’” she said.
In the days leading up to Election Day, Mucarsel-Powell has been present in South Florida communities that she said are often left behind.
“So for me it’s very important to be present not only in Latino communities but also in black communities, low income areas in Miami Dade county and that I don’t have access to healthcare that don’t have access to fresh food,” she said.
