TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — It doesn’t matter what party you are affiliated with, in the words of former first lady Michelle Obama, “Don’t sit around and complain — do something!”

We are in the final sprint of the 2024 General Election season. There is less than two weeks until one of the most important days of our lifetimes. Come November 5, not only are we as a country selecting the next commander in chief for the next four years, but we will have a say in what goes on in our backyard. From state senator races, to deciding on legalizing marijuana and local millage tax.

Voting and understanding the wording of amendments on ballots can be convoluted, even sometimes overwhelming.

On today’s episode of Rooted in Progress, we are breaking down all things election – well most, since there’s a lot going on in this cycle. News Channel 8’s weekend anchor and political reporter Ty Russell joins us at the kitchen table. He talks about early voting. Political analyst and professor Tara Newsom shares why all eyes are on Florida, making a voter plan and voting in low-income communities.

Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer stops by. He is on the ballot, but his message wasn’t a campaign push. He lets residents know about updated polling locations following Hurricane Milton, and even extends the offer to call his office if you need assistance breaking down the ballot.

No matter what — your voice matters. Let it be heard by voting this election day, November 5th!
