It was another big year for Clear The Shelters.

NBCUniversal Local‘s 11th annual pet adoption and donation campaign drove over 160,000 adoptions and raised more than $628,000 in donations for participating shelters and rescues.

This year’s Clear The Shelters campaign saw NBC and Telemundo’s owned stations and affiliates team up with 1,735 shelters and rescues to promote pet adoptions and raise money for animal welfare. The participating shelters and rescues were located across 49 states, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam.

The adoption initiative ran for the entire month of August and helped 160,165 pets find homes. And the donation initiative, held from July 15 to Sept. 15, resulted in the highest fundraising total since 2020.

“We are incredibly thankful for another successful year helping vulnerable pets and animal shelters,” said Meredith McGinn, NBCUniversal Local’s EVP of Diginets & Original Production, in a statement.

“This effort is fueled by our wonderful campaign partners, including Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and the participating stations and their employees across the nation who bring it to life. We greatly appreciate them and all of those who adopted and donated so generously this year to help at-risk pets and those who care for them.”

Clear The Shelters had several returning partners, along with a new one, in 2025.

The Black Dog came aboard and launched a limited-edition Clear The Shelters merchandise collection. The restaurant and apparel company helped generate $100,000 in fundraising, which included proceeds from the merchandise collection and from customers who rounded up on purchases from The Black Dog.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition served as the campaign’s national sponsor for the eighth straight year. Hill’s donated $25,000 to the Clear The Shelters fund, in addition to providing food donations and adoption kits at select participating shelters.

Meanwhile, longtime Clear The Shelters partner Greater Good Charities led the campaign’s fundraising effort, while virtual adoptions were once again available through WeRescue.

“The mission of Clear The Shelters is as important as ever while shelters across the country continue to face a capacity crisis,” said Carrick Massey, U.S. senior vice president of marketing at Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

“Hill’s is honored to have played a role in helping shelters connect so many deserving pets with loving homes for the eighth consecutive year of this campaign. We are incredibly grateful to all the campaign partners and shelters across the country for their tireless support of such an important cause.”

Clear The Shelters, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, also conducted its sixth life-saving airlift during this year’s campaign. The airlift transported over 120 at-risk dogs and cats from overpopulated shelters in Alabama and Louisiana.

Another 2025 campaign highlight was actor Joe Manganiello and his dog Bubbles hosting the Clear The Shelters TV special. The special spotlighted several different animal rescue heroes, including The Unstoppable Dogs.

Clear The Shelters has now resulted in over 1.3 million adoptions and raised more than $5.6 million in donations since launching in 2015.
