TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — This Hispanic Heritage Month, News Channel 8 is highlighting gems in Tampa Bay to celebrate the culture.
One place you can visit is Jimmy’s Tacos, a Mexican-owned spot that is located in Ybor City.
The history of Jimmy’s Tacos dates back to the 80s when the family lived in Los Angeles, California.
“Family members that made this, they sowed the grounds for us,” Jimmy’s Tacos Manager Jonathan Gonzalez said. “We just basically run the straight line that they made for us.”
The taco spot is known for its quesabirria tacos, which include shredded beef cooked in guajillo chili, melted cheese, cilantro, and onion, and served with consommé (which is the beef sauce it was cooked in).
Other menu items include a variety of tacos, burritos, quesadillas and taco bowls.
Over the years, Jimmy’s Tacos has started incorporating other cultures into their recipes, resulting in their birria bao buns, birria egg rolls and birria pizza.
Jimmy’s Tacos is located at 1604 North 17th Street in Tampa and is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
