BLOOM (TAMPA) – Filmmaker and Crisis Connect CEO David Yates joined Gayle Guyardo on the globally syndicated health and wellness show Bloom to discuss an inspiring initiative: Beach Aid. This free community event aims to bring relief, support, and connection to Florida residents still grappling with the aftermath of back-to-back hurricanes.

What is Beach Aid?

Beach Aid is a family-friendly outdoor event designed to provide a much-needed break from the challenges of hurricane recovery. It will take place on Saturday, November 30th, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Madeira Beach City Hall Complex.

Here’s what attendees can look forward to:

  • Live Music: Local bands and performers will provide entertainment for all ages.
  • Kids’ Play Area: A space for children to enjoy and unwind.
  • Free Thanksgiving Dinner: The first 2,000 guests will enjoy a complimentary holiday meal.
  • Donated Items: Furniture, small kitchen appliances, and other essentials will be distributed to those in need.
  • Group Counseling Services: Mental health resources and free group counseling will be available to help residents process the trauma caused by the storms.

Goals of the Event

Beach Aid is more than just a day of fun. The event has two critical purposes:

  1. Immediate Relief: By offering food, essential items, and mental health resources, Beach Aid seeks to alleviate the stress many residents are experiencing.
  2. Fundraising for Long-Term Recovery: Donations made at the event or through MyCrisisConnect.com will directly support hurricane victims.

Crisis Connect, the nonprofit partner for Beach Aid, is also accepting donations of furniture and small kitchen appliances, which will be distributed during and after the event.

A Focus on Mental Health

Recognizing the emotional toll of these natural disasters, Beach Aid is addressing what Yates describes as a “predictable mental health large-scale crisis.” Free group counseling sessions and other mental health resources will be available, ensuring that residents have access to the support they need to heal.

Open to All

While the event aims to help those directly affected by the hurricanes, it is open to everyone, providing a space for the entire community to come together in solidarity and support.

Looking Ahead

Beach Aid is only the beginning. Organizers hope to host future events, such as Beach Aid 2, as Florida continues its long-term recovery from these devastating storms.
