Mackenzie LaPorte is thrilled to be joining the 8 On Your Side as our WFLA Florida Statehouse reporter in the capital city!

Mackenzie comes from Champaign, Illinois, where she covered statewide political issues at the Capitol in Springfield and fell in love with the world of politics.

Along with capitol news, Mackenzie anchored and produced the weekend evening shows in the Quincy, IL/Hannibal, MO/Keokuk, IA market where she also worked as an MMJ.

Mackenzie interned at KSNT in Topeka, Kansas, while earning her BS in Broadcast Journalism from the William Allen White School of Journalism and Communications at the University of Kansas. Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!

Mackenzie is eager to catch breaking news, always ready to take the extra step to connect to viewers, breakdown political affairs & state legislation, and work daily to grow as a journalist.

With roots in Chicago, Mackenzie is ready to see what winters are like in Florida – rather than the Midwest for a change!
