Since joining WFLA-TV in 1988, general assignment reporter Jeff Patterson has covered a wide variety of stories in the Tampa Bay area.
Having previously worked in News Channel 8’s ‘8 On Your Side’ consumer unit, Patterson can be seen behind the sports desk on occasion in addition to his general reporting assignments. Jeff enjoys the diversity of his job. In the recent years, stories have taken him to hurricane-torn Honduras to the sidelines of Florida Field for the state’s biggest football rivalry.
In 1999, Jeff earned the coveted Green Eyeshade award for a series about the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch.
A graduate of Brigham Young University, Jeff began his broadcasting career in Provo, Utah, where he hosted a magazine format show and worked as a sports anchor for KBYU-TV. He has served as a freelance editor/photographer in Washington, D.C. for the Cable News Network, as a state government reporter for WOWK-TV in Charleston, West Virginia, and as a reporter/bureau chief for WSPA-TV in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Jeff enjoys golf, trivia, history and parenting his two daughters in Tampa.
