TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The final superstructure beam was placed on the new Howard Frankland Bridge on Thursday afternoon, signifying a major milestone in the construction process.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, beam No. 1726 out of the 1,726 beams for the new bridge was officially set in.

Officials said the new construction, linking Hillsborough and Pinellas County, is on track to shift traffic to the new bridge starting in Spring 2025.

FDOT said that along with the completion of the beams, all 4949 bridge footings and columns have been completed, all 226 bridge caps are done, and all pilings have been driven.

Now, all that is left to be completed are the remaining 17 deck sections, 40% of the bridge traffic rail and barrier wall, 10% of the Pinellas side approach, and 50% of the Hillsborough side approach, according to traffic officials.
