HAINES CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — Police are investigating after two people were found dead with apparent gunshot wounds at a Haines City home on Saturday night.
Around 9:51 p.m., Haines City police responded to the Hammock Reserve subdivision after receiving a 911 call from a family member at another location.
The concerned relative told officials that their brother, who was at the home with his significant other, was making suicidal statements.
When police arrived, they heard a single gunshot go off in the home.
After forcing themselves in, officers found a man and woman on the second floor, both dead.
The victims were later identified as a 34-year-old Hispanic man and a 33-year-old Hispanic woman who had been in a relationship for the past several years.
Police believe this is an isolated incident related to the two’s relationship.
Several children, including two of which the couple shared, also lived at the home. However, officials said none of the children were injured during the incident and they were not present when officers arrived.
Haines City Police Chief Greg Goreck provided the following statement Sunday night.
This is the second time in less than a year that our community has been devastated by a domestic violence situation, leaving innocent children without their parents. We want everyone to know that there are resources available and domestic violence situations do not have to be faced alone. We owe it to each other, and especially to our children to provide support, raise awareness, and work towards breaking this vicious cycle. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this difficult time, especially during the holiday season.
Haines City Police Chief Greg Goreck
