MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — An iconic gem in Pinellas County has something to be extra thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday.
After experiencing storm surge from Hurricane Helene, Candy Kitchen in Madeira Beach has decided to reopen starting at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
“I know it’s going to be an emotional day for us,” Candy Kitchen Owner Matt Giordano said.
Giordano said it has taken him and his team weeks of cleaning and painting to get the candy store ready for its customers.
“I mean, it took everything,” he said. “That’s honestly the truth, it took everything.”
The layout inside this Candy Kitchen location looks a bit different from its original layout but the shop will still sell customer favorites.
Customers have been stopping by during clean up efforts to re-sign the walls of the store, which is something they have done for generations. Some signatures had to be painted over during repairs.
“I know a bunch of people told me they are coming out today,” Giordano said. “It’s people that I’m used to seeing multiple times in a week and I haven’t seen them in two months. It’s going to be like seeing old friends.”
Candy Kitchen in Madeira Beach is located at 13711 Gulf Blvd. Their usual hours of operation are Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Candy Kitchen in Redington Shores opened its doors on Wednesday.
