ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A young Ormond Beach boy at the center of a Missing Child Alert was found dead Sunday night.
An alert was issued for 4-year-old Waylon Childs around 2 p.m. after he was reported missing from the area of Fleming Avenue, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Waylon’s father had been at a park with him and his two siblings, all under the age of 5, when the young boy disappeared, Ormond Beach Police said.

The Ormond Beach Police Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, FDLE, Volusia Sheriff’s Office, and local law enforcement from neighboring cities worked closely together to conduct a thorough and exhaustive search that spanned nearly the whole day.
Then, at around 9:02 p.m. authorities said they recovered Waylon’s body near the park where he had gone missing.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our hearts are with Waylon’s family during this unimaginable loss,” said Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey. “We would like to thank the community, and all the agencies involved for their support and efforts during this search. The Ormond Beach Police Department remains committed to standing with the family and our community in the days ahead.”
