HERNANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — An electric fireplace sparked a fire, significantly damaging a mobile home in Hernando on Friday.
Around 10:09 a.m., Citrus County Fire Rescue, along with several surrounding fire stations, responded to the blaze on East Dale Court in Hernando to find the double-wide mobile home roughly 30% engulfed in flames.
“Overhaul efforts were extensive due to a significant fuel load inside the structure,” fire officials said.
Preliminary investigation determined that the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical source from an electric fireplace.

No one was inside the home during the fire and no injuries among the responders were reported.
Firefighters said the home sustained significant damages.
Citrus County Fire Rescue reminds residents with electric fireplaces to always plug them directly into a wall outlet, rather than an extension cord or power strip, to regularly inspect cords and plugs for damage or wear, to turn off and unplug the fireplace when it’s not in use, and to clear the nearby area of any flammable materials.
