LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — Several manatees were rescued from a pond in Largo on Friday, after reportedly getting stuck due to Hurricane Helene.
At least four manatees were found in the water at the Serenity Funeral Home and Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, located at 13401 Indian Rocks Road.
As of Friday afternoon, three of the manatees have been rescued, while one manateee and a baby are still stuck in the pond, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.
After officials noticed one manatee was lactating, they set out to find a calf nearby that may also have been stuck in the pond.
Once they are rescued, the manatees will be brought to the Belleair Bridge boat ramp.
FWC said if they are healthy, they will be released.
